Born to a Bengali family in New Delhi on January 7, 1979, Bipasha Basu is the second of three daughters to her parents. Though born in Delhi, soon her family shifted base to Kolkata, where she spent her most childhood.
Acting came accidental to her life. Initially, she was interested to become a doctor, so she studied science till her 12th standard, but then her interest grew to become a Chartered accountant, so she studied commerce in college.
Modeling Career
Since, the fate has some other profession stored for her and it was her sheer luck in 1996 that she met renowned model Mehr Jessia in Kolkata. She suggested her to participate in the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest, and to her surprise, she won the contest. She was then flown to New York by Ford Company, where she made a successful modeling career and reached the zenith of modeling.
Bollywood Roles
As she became more popular, big names in Bollywood came calling her with rewarding roles in Bollywood. She finally takes up the acting career and proved her mettle by making her debut role in Abbas Mustan's Ajnabee, with Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor. Her role in the movie was of a married woman who goes all out to woo her husband’s married friend, her effort has been accredited and she was chosen for Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her performance.
Bipasha’s success story further stretched when she played a remarkable role in Vikram Bhatt's thriller Raaz in 2002. The film was a big success that year and she was nominated for the Filmfare best actress award for the first time. But it was Amit Saxena’s Jism, done with newcomer John Abraham, in which she worked wonders and the film took her to a new high.
Besides acting, Bipasha did the famous video "Tu" for Sonu Nigam's album Kismat and made a guest appearance in Jay Sean's music video Stolen. In 2006, she won popular acclaim for her item number Beedi in the song Omkara, that song was a national hit and her vivacious move appreciated by many.
Miscellaneous Activities
On the year 2007, this sultry Bollywood actress represented India at the New Seven Wonders of The World Ceremony at Lisbon, Portugal. Bipasha Basu is one of the ‘remarkable personalities of the world’ this is what Bernard Weber, Founder and President of New7Wonders said about the actress. She sharedthe international stage with other big stars like Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Swank and Ben Kingsley to host the show.
In her personal life, Bipasha is romantically linked to fellow Bollywood actor John Abraham. Even though Basu is a Hindu and Abraham, a Christian, both families have accepted the couple. Basu has stated in an interview that though she was raised a Hindu, she believes that all religious groups deserve respect.
